Can You Switch?

Yes, you can switch from a Student visa to a Skilled Worker visa without leaving the UK, provided you meet the requirements.

Requirements

• You must have a job offer from a UK employer who is a licensed sponsor
• The job must meet the minimum skill level (RQF 3 or above)
• You must meet the salary threshold (£38,700 or the "going rate" for the role)
• You must prove English language ability (B1 level) — your degree may satisfy this
• You must have enough money to support yourself (unless your sponsor certifies maintenance)

The Process

1. Get a job offer from a licensed sponsor employer
2. Your employer issues a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS)
3. Apply online through the UK visa and immigration website
4. Pay the application fee (£719 to £1,500 depending on role and duration)
5. Pay the Immigration Health Surcharge (£1,035 per year)
6. Attend a biometric appointment
7. Wait for a decision (usually 8 weeks)

When to Switch

You can apply to switch as soon as you have your CoS. Ideally, apply before your student visa expires. You can continue studying while your application is pending.
