Introduction

England is the largest country in the United Kingdom. It shares borders with Scotland to the north and Wales to the west. The capital city of England (and the whole UK) is London.

Geography

  • England covers about 130,000 square kilometres
  • The longest river in England is the River Thames (346 km)
  • The highest mountain in England is Scafell Pike (978 metres) in the Lake District
  • The Lake District is a famous national park with beautiful lakes and mountains
  • Other national parks include the Peak District, Yorkshire Dales, and New Forest

England has a rich history, including:

Food and Drink

Traditional English foods include fish and chips, Sunday roast, full English breakfast, Cornish pasty, Yorkshire pudding, and trifle. Tea is the most popular drink.
