Understanding UK Weather

Let's be honest — the UK weather has a reputation. But the truth is more nuanced. Yes, it rains. Yes, it can be grey. But it's rarely extreme, and each season has its own beauty and charm.

Month-by-Month Weather Guide

January

Temperature: 2°C - 7°C | Rainfall: Moderate | Daylight: 8 hours

The coldest month. Frosty mornings, short days, and the possibility of snow in northern areas. Wrap up warm and enjoy cosy pubs and roaring fires.

February

Temperature: 2°C - 8°C | Rainfall: Moderate | Daylight: 9 hours

Still cold but days are getting longer. Early spring flowers start to appear. Good time for city breaks and museum visits.

March

Temperature: 4°C - 11°C | Rainfall: Moderate | Daylight: 11 hours

Spring arrives! Daffodils bloom, birds sing, and the countryside comes alive. Layer up — the weather can change quickly.

April

Temperature: 5°C - 13°C | Rainfall: Moderate-Heavy | Daylight: 13 hours

"April showers" are real! Pack waterproofs alongside sunglasses. Bluebells start blooming in ancient woodlands.

May

Temperature: 8°C - 16°C | Rainfall: Light-Moderate | Daylight: 15 hours

One of the best months. Long days, mild weather, and everything in bloom. Perfect for outdoor activities and walking.

June

Temperature: 11°C - 19°C | Rainfall: Light | Daylight: 16 hours

Summer begins! Long warm evenings, festivals starting, and the countryside at its greenest. Don't forget sunscreen.

July

Temperature: 13°C - 22°C | Rainfall: Light | Daylight: 16 hours

The warmest month on average. Perfect for beaches, festivals, and road trips. Heatwaves are becoming more common.

August

Temperature: 13°C - 22°C | Rainfall: Moderate | Daylight: 15 hours

Peak summer. School holidays mean busy attractions. Great for outdoor adventures and coastal trips.

September

Temperature: 10°C - 18°C | Rainfall: Moderate | Daylight: 13 hours

Autumn begins. Beautiful colours start to appear, crowds thin out, and temperatures are still pleasant.

October

Temperature: 7°C - 14°C | Rainfall: Moderate-Heavy | Daylight: 11 hours

Full autumn glory. Spectacular fall colours, Halloween events, and cosy evenings. Pack a warm jacket.

November

Temperature: 3°C - 9°C | Rainfall: Moderate-Heavy | Daylight: 9 hours

Bonfire Night (5th November) lights up the skies. Short, dark days but Christmas markets start appearing.

December

Temperature: 2°C - 7°C | Rainfall: Moderate | Daylight: 7 hours

The darkest month, but full of festive cheer. Christmas markets, lights, and celebrations everywhere.
