How do I get a National Insurance number?

Your National Insurance number (NINo) links your earnings to your tax and state pension. If you became a UK resident as an adult and don't yet have one, you apply through GOV.UK for free — you will never be asked to pay for it. You don't need it to start work, but your employer will want it.
